Are you one of the many young drivers who wish to take automatic driving lessons? Do you know the pros and cons of driving an automatic versus a manual? Did you ever stop and think about the advantages and disadvantages of owning an automatic before you went ahead and bought one?

I am no expert in cars or engines or motors but I have learned tips from here and there as I read columns and forums about driving automatic versus manuals.

In some of these forums, people say that the generation of today, i.e. young drivers seem to prefer the automatic. This, according to them, makes them lazy since you hardly do any work when driving an automatic. It seems, to these people writing in the forums, automatic driving has banished the need for doing manual labor and the grit and controlling power that you get when driving manual. This, according to them, is something that they don't teach you in driving school and you learn it by instinct and by building a relationship with your car. These guys are disappointed when they pass by a school or an office and see numbers of automatics parked on the parking lot.

Of course, young drivers jumped up to their defense. It seems it would be more practical to buy an automatic since driving it would help you get to your destination the safer way. An automatic gives you more time to react and plan ahead when driving as opposed to a manual where you have to be sensitive and alert when driving.

Then the forums get into a more deeper discussion about hand brakes and gears and all that and I get lost as a reader since first, it does not interest me much and I don't really know much about what happens to engine and all that.

Anyway, the reason I got into it in the first place is because I'm debating if I'm going to take driving lessons using manual or automatic. A driving school will ask what I want. I'm not planning to buy a car yet. I'm just looking into the possibility of driving one and maybe prepare myself when I'm prepared to shell out dough for a car of my own.
