I recently had some good news in fact some fantastic news, I was pregnant again, I had always wanted a large family from such a young age, I was part of a large family myself and luckily so was my husband we found out very early on in our relationship that we both wanted a lot of children which was great as it saved a lot of arguments later on.

Our growing family was unfortunately out growing our house, it was OK for just us but we couldn't invite family round for a meal or for Christmas as there just wasn't enough room. We thought about moving house but we loved where we lived and really didn't want to so we started looking at other options.

One of our thoughts was a house extension, we decided to look into this fully as we knew that not only would it give us the space we needed while we lived there but it would increase the value of our property when we wanted to sell it.

We decided that if we were to go ahead with a house extension we wanted a full extension upstairs and downstairs that way it would give us an extra bedroom and the way we were going we would no doubt need it in a few years anyway.

Our main problem was that the majority of our plumbing was at the front of the house and if we wanted to go ahead with a house extension then we would have to contact the local waste management department to see how easy it would be to get our fresh water and waste pipes round to the back of the house. We didn't relish the prospect of possibly having to dig up the entire ground floor just to put fresh water and waste pipes into the back of the house.

Finally after much consideration we decided this would be the way forward and we contacted a local architect, he advised us that we should employ a project manager, they would not only deal with the waste management department on our behalf, which is a good thing apparently as the waste management department tended to be very slow when dealing with the general public but when dealing with a project manager they pulled their finger out a lot more.

He also advised us that the project manager would make sure every detail was carried out from the initial phoning around to find out skip hire costs for us, to dealing with all the waste at the end of the extension and getting all the waste taken away so we could either hire a firm of decorators or decorate it ourselves.

After talking with each other we decided that we should interview several possible project managers before deciding which one to hire as we wanted someone who will understand our needs and requirements and also be firm with anyone they need to contact so that people will not drag their feet and our house extension would be built sooner rather than later.
