We had been living in our small house for three years and for three years I had moaned. We didn't realise when we bought it how small it would be once all our furniture and three kids were in it.

We saw an advert about extending your house and decided that was the way we would go, as the location of the house for the kids school was great. We rang a builder who advertised doing extensions and he came out to have a look.

Well, I never thought extending your house would be so complicated, because we wanted to move the kitchen we needed the waste disposal services to come in and help. Oh, this was going to cost us!

As extensions go, this was a bog standard one I thought but apparently not. I wanted something out of the ordinary. I only wanted my kitchen moving, a dining room to be added and an upstairs bedroom with the bathroom being moved.

The waste disposal services came in and dug up most of my garden to redo the pipework and lay the new grids. God, it was so messy. i thought a simple job, didn't realise the whole house would be turned upside down in the process. I ended up taking the kids and moving in with my mum for a short while to avoid the dust and mass.

Once the waste disposal services had completed their part of the job, my builder could get on with the extensions. He completed in a little over two weeks over the estimated time, which was no surprise that he took longer, then charged more. But, the finished result was amazing. The house seemed so much more spacious and we had added lots to the property value. The kids love the idea of more space and slowly there toys are filling up my spacious home again.

I would recommend to anybody who is thinking about extending your house to do it, but do more research than I did as I didn't think about all of the upheaval while the builders were in.
