I was thinking about a house extension as we can't afford to move hous

I was thinking about a house extension as we can't afford to move house, but we have a serious lack of space and I am expecting! I am currently 5 months pregnant, and if we were to have a house extension I would definitely want it before the baby so I could do the nursery up, plus I wouldn't really want builders about waking up the baby and myself,- I'm not looking forward to sleepless nights, I love my sleep!
I have done some enquiring about a house extension to find out how long it would take etc. I must admit though, after watching some of these programs about cowboy builders, I am a bit wary about the whole thing, especially as I am pregnant. But notall builders a rip off merchants. I phoned up a friend of the family, who actually built his own house, and does a lot of extensions and other building work. He is a lovely guy and has done all of the families work and did my aunts extensions so I know I can trust him. He is coming out to us next week to talk to us to get a better idea of what we want etc. I am rather excited, I can't wait to start decorating the nursery, and buying lots of nice things to go in it, I have already bought the furniture to go in there.
When I was younger I remember once, he was going to my aunts to do the extensions work. He was driving one of those vans with the thing on the back that mixes the mortar. He was just about to turn right when a waste skip hire truck tried to over take him. Luckily he saw what the other driver was trying to do and slammed his foot on the brake. Thankfully the other driver didn't hit his van. It wouldn't be a very nice site, mortar all over the place with rubbish stuck in it. Knowing the council too, they would probably just leave the mortar to dry, then close the road off for 8 months while they get it all up!
