Our house had been on the market for 16 moths with no viewings. We couldn't believe that we would struggle to sell. We were in a good catchment area for the best local schools and our house was decorated to a good standard.
The only reason we were moving was for more space, so we ended up deciding on house extensions instead. We took the house off the market and booked a mini skip hire for the weekend. We had a good clear out and started to think about what we wanted to do.
We hired a builder to come in and help with the design of the extension thinking he could add some valuable advice but really he just agreed with everything we said.
The build was due to take place and another mini skip hire company arrived to drop a skip off for the footings to be dug out. I know that this had to be done but didn't imagine the mess that would be involved with it. The builders were very messy and kept dropping rubble through the house. Soon the skip was full and the mini skip hire company arrive to take one away and drop another off.
Footing finished, the build started to take place. As we were moving the kitchen I wanted a carpenter in to do all the joinery professionally as we were now going to stay in this house I wanted it perfect. He came and sat down with me to design my new kitchen, but he listened to everything I wanted and then came up with the perfect design. He found out about what I liked to do and implemented into the kitchen some of the things I liked doing. It was definitely something better than I had ever dreamed of.
Once the build was completely finished and the builders had moved on, we needed another mini skip hire to clear away all the rubbish that they had left. Although my extension was everything I had dreamed about and more, the mess they had left was unimaginable. I wrote to the builders to complain as part of the quote was for skips to keep any rubbish to a minimum. I had paid for these skips yet only saw two during the whole build. He replied apologising, saying he didn't realise the builders had left a mess, he had moved onto another job and left somebody in charge. He sent a cheque covering the cost of two skips which was quite a surprise. I expected no response and would recommend him to all of my friends.
