My children and I lived in a two bedroom house. My son Leon has got spina bifida and hydrocephalus. We had an occupational therapist round to see our home. She said that we would need a downstairs bedroom and bathroom for Leon. Unfortunately our house wasn't suitable for extending. She told us about a couple with a spina bifida daughter that did a flat refurbishment and extension to give their daughter the space for all her equipment. She mentioned that the couple had got the disabled facilities grant for thirty thousand pounds.

I got an estate agent around to value our house. She said that it was worth one hundred and thirty thousand pounds. We put it one market and many viewers came to see it. It was annoying and upsetting that few people seemed to like it. I asked the agent how I could make it more appealing. She suggested I viewed some houses similar to my own then I could get an idea of how to make my house look more attractive to buyers. I did as she suggested noticing cream walls, less furniture and no clutter.

I looked in my Yellow Pages at midi skip hire. Green Leaves midi skip hire cost just sixty pounds. So I phoned them and asked about midi skip hire. I went to library and borrowed a book about clearing the clutter. Reading that helped me a great deal. I went to the DIY store and bought five tubs of cream wall paint. I spent a whole weekend painting all the walls. I was too tired for work on the Monday!

The first viewer after I had transformed our house made an offer for one hundred and twenty five thousand pounds. I accepted it straight away. I began looking in estate agents windows. I came across a really lovely three bedroom bungalow. I made an appointment to go and view it. It looked so perfect for my family so I made an offer for one hundred and fifty thousand pounds. Amazingly that was accepted and we become the owners of the excellent bungalow.

The occupational therapist was really happy with our purchase. She helped me put in an application for the disabled facilities grant. Her idea was to make an extra bedroom for Leon with a play room opposite it and an en-suite bathroom. My application was accepted and the building work took two weeks. They did a midi skip hire, bought bricks, purchased mortar bought a bathroom suite. I was reading a book called extending your house.

My bungalow now has a lounge, a kitchen, a bedroom for Sophie, a bedroom for Debbie, a bedroom for me, a bedroom for Leon, a bathroom for Leon, a playroom for Leon and a bathroom for the rest of us. We are really happy in our attractive looking bungalow.
